Announcements

August 27th, 2020

Greetings! Can you believe that we’re approaching the end of August! Tomorrow marks our last meeting of “Meteorological Summer” for 2020! As this summer seems to have flown by, we’re inching ever closer to the day when COVID 19 will be in the rear view. Very much looking forward to that day.

With today’s busy and quick delivery lifestyles, we may take many things for granted. Food Safety and Security may be one of those “out of sight/out of mind” things we rarely think about. Our Guest Speaker will be Stephanie Morris of The Indiana Pork Producers Association who will talk to us on the topic of Protecting Our Food Supply. Stephanie, who is a member of the National Pork Board Speakers Bureau, will be coming to us live via Zoom from Indiana.

As you know, we are now meeting in person at Maple Dale Country Club with face coverings and social distancing observed. For those who wish to join the meeting via Zoom, the link information is provided in the weekly email update, courtesy once again of Alex Vaughan.

I hope you can join us tomorrow for what promises to be another interesting awareness building opportunity. The bell will ring at 7:30AM. Hope to see you then …. or slightly thereafter for a dollar!

In Rotary Service,

Mike Petit de Mange, President
Dover Colonial Rotary Club

February 20th, 2020

Welcome to 3rd week of February, 2020.

Thanks for last week’s program by Karen Gritton, Development Director for the American Heart Association, Delaware. An appropriate topic for our Valentine’s Day meeting program. Thanks to Bill Torbert for arranging for Karen to speak.

This week’s program features Marc Garduno of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and has been secured by Daniel Davis who will introduce our guest speaker.

Program date lottery this week. Thank you to all our Colonial Rotary members who’ve volunteered to take responsibility for the upcoming program dates through the end of June 2020. – I’ve been advertising that any dates still open after February 15th would be assigned to members. – I’ve decided instead of just coupling a name with a date, we’d have a live lottery drawing during Friday’s program. – Those responsible for a program, please coordinate your presenter’s needs a week in advance with Amy Dotson-Newton.

PSA – We all get unwanted phone solicitations. Recently, a friend of mine posted a resource on Face Book for blocking those calls. Copy this link, paste it into your web browser for complete information: https://www.consumer.ftc.gov/features/how-stop-unwanted-calls .

February 12th, 2020

Welcome to 2nd week of February, 2020.

Thanks for last week’s program by Lisa Grossman who left us with a better understanding of the Bayhealth Medical Center’s Junior Board. They certainly have raised a lot of funds for the hospital since they began. It was also good to have former Colonial Rotary member, Steve Grossman along for the ride as well. We exchanged flags!

Friday is Valentine’s Day – This week’s program will be about affairs of the heart other than romance… the HUMAN heart.

Today is the last day to volunteer for a date to provide a Rotary Program. We’ve asked for several weeks that members take responsibility for one program before dates are assigned. Check next week’s Colonial News for names and dates of members assigned to provide programs. Coordinate your program presenter’s needs with Amy Dotson-Newton at amydotsonnewton@doverpost.com .

Available Program Dates Are: April, 17 – All Four Fridays in May – June 12 and 19.
