Welcome to 4th week of August, 2019.

An email received this week from RI's International PolioPlus Chair, Michael K. McGovern says that as of Wednesday,... "August 21, 2019, it has been three years since a child in Nigeria was paralyzed by the wild poliovirus. This means that the entire World Health Organization (WHO) African region could be certified as wild poliovirus-free as soon as min-2020."

This week, we welcome Laura Simpson of the Kent County Habitat for Humanity as the newest member of the Dover Colonial Rotary Club.

Many of you have heard me talk about the importance of regular attendance and making up missed meetings. As you may know, I have made it my goal to maintain a 100% attendance rate. I've been successful for the 24 years I've been a member of Dover Colonial Rotary by going to other Rotary Club meetings whenever I've traveled. Nancy and I even made up a meeting I missed when we were on our honeymoon in Florida.

I'd like to urge each member of the Colonial Rotary Club to strive for a minimum 60% attendance. To that end I've listed the meeting days, times and locations of other area Rotary Clubs in the side-bar on the front page of this weekly newsletter.

But there's also an electronic make-up option available to you as a Colonial Rotary member if circumstances keep you from making up any other way. Go online to to be connected to the home web-page of Rotary eClub One which was chartered in 2002 in district 5450 which is in Colorado. (Sorry but I couldn't get a link to eClub to work in the newsletter.)

After you've followed through with their makeup process, you'll be able to print a form that you can then bring with you to our next meeting to help maintain your attendance rate. There is a small fee to use the process.

Alex Vaughan, President

Welcome to 2nd week of August, 2019.

It is my pleasure to announce two additions to the membership roles of the Dover Colonial Rotary Club. First, please welcome longtime friend and Charter member of the Colonial Rotary Club, Bob Matsko back into Rotary. Bob is Vice President of the Commercial Real Estate division of WSFS Bank. Secondly, please welcome Dr. Amystique Church who is the Executive Director of Testing Services at the Division of Adult & Continuing Education at Delaware State University. Welcome Bob and Amystique.

Our program this week will be presented by Mary Randall who is the Kent County coordinator of Read Aloud Delaware. She’ll talk about their program which I think is a good compliment to our clubs Dictionary Project.

** Please search through your bookshelves and find a children’s book you can donate to Read Aloud Delaware this week.** Leave the books on the shelf under the podium as you check in Friday and I’ll include it in a presentation to Ms. Randall at the conclusion of her program.

Welcome to 1st week of August, 2019.

Thanks to Colonial Board member and associate programming director for an excellent program about her uncle’s books on brain teasers and trivia. If you have an interesting hobby or topic or person that would make a good program Colonial Rotary program, please let Ceil Jones or Amy Newton know.

It’s always a good idea to know more about ones interests. Earlier this week, I saw a Rotary link to “A Reference Guide for Members” posted in one of the online chat rooms I read. It’s a very good primer into what Rotary is. Check it out at:

Looking forward to seeing all Friday for breakfast. Yours In Rotary Service,

Welcome to 4th week of July, 2019.

Hot + rainy = steamy weather. Well, it’s State Fair week, and that’s the weather we usually get. I hope everyone has been safe in these weather extremes. Please keep an eye out for people around you who may need help too. Everyone needs to stay hydrated and reasonably cool.

Last week’s program by David Argentar of SunEdge Solar was timely and instructive. This week, we look forward to a program from one of our members, Amy Newton. She promises a fun program with puzzle books.

Looking forward seeing all our friends Friday morning. Yours In Rotary Service,

Alex Vaughan president
